2012 Conference - Dockside, Cockle Bay (Darling Harbour) Friday 26 October 2012!

Keynote Speaker - Adam Spencer took over the coveted TRIPLE J breakfast time slot, co hosting with Wil Anderson from 1999 - 2004. Adam holds a first class honors degree in Pure Mathematics and has an immense interest in science. These passions lead Adam to hosting the ABC program QUANTUM and FAQ from 1998 to 2001.  Adam was a regular guest on Channel Ten’s GOOD NEWS WEEK series, ABC's THE FAT and continued to be a regular guest on THE GLASSHOUSE. Adam returned to radio in 2006 where he still presents the highly coveted breakfast show for ABC 702. Adam’s other outstanding achievements include being voted “Best Speaker in the World” at the World University Debating Championships. Adam has had extensive experience on various boards and authorities; he continues to serve on the Senate of the University of Sydney, the NSW Premier's Advisory Committee on Greenhouse and Global Warming and the NSW Health Department's Clinical Ethics Review Committee as well as being an ambassador for the Fred Hollows Foundation and helping out with numerous charities.

Advocating for Careers Advisers

CAA recognises the concerns of our members that in some schools, whoever is expedient to undertake the school’s Careers Advisers position is being employed, rather than hiring suitably qualified and trained careers advisers. There are also concerns that the time allocation for Careers Education is being reduced, administrative staff are being  utilised to do the role, and there are instances where the position of the Careers Adviser has been abolished entirely. Such practices undermine the status of our profession, and CAA is highlighting these concerns and raising awareness with Principals and other relevant parties about the dangers in these practices. CAA has written to the Minister for Education and to view a copy of this letter, please click here. CAA will continue to update members on our efforts in relation to this.

CAA has also written to Minister Garrett in relation to the DEEWR decision to eliminate the distribution of an individual copy of the Job Guide to Year 10 students across Australia. We are disappointed that DEEWR have made this decision. To view a copy of CAA's letter, click here. You are welcome to use our letter as a basis for your own should you wish to write to the Minister yourself.
